Abstract/Summary The paper deals with continuous-time adaptive control of a continuous stirred tank reactor. A non- linear model of the plant is approximated by an external linear model with recursively estimated parameters. Both one degree of freedom and two degrees of freedom control system configurations arc considered. Resulting controllers ensure internal properness and stability of the control system as well as asymptotic tracking of the step reference and step load disturbance attenuation. The design procedure is based on the polynomial method. Art application of the LQ control technique yields a control law penalizing the control input changes. The adaptive control is tested by circulation means.
