Abstract/Summary Epoxide derivative II was used to synthesize a number of new condensed and noncondensed heterocyclic systems. Thus, reaction of II with amines, hydrazines, active methylene compounds and Friedel—Crafts reactions have been studied. On the other hand, II reacted with Grignard reagents and afforded products with an open epoxide ring. However, II condensed with thiourea and glycine gave oxazolinethione and 2-morpholinone derivatives. Also, II reacted with acetic acid and gave hydroxypropanoyl derivative. Action of different nitriles with II gave the hydroxy amide derivatives, which underwent cyclization and afforded 2-oxazoline derivatives.
