Abstract/Summary The aquation of trans-[Co(me2tn)2Cl2]+, β-cis-[Co(trien)Cl2]+, and trans-[Co(2,2,3-tet)Cl2 ]+ has been investigated in aqueous mixtures of methanol, tert-butanol, acetonitrile, dimethyl sulfoxide, sulfolane, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone, ethylene carbonate, and urea, respectively, at 298.1 K. Results are discussed in terms of the importance of structure of aqueous binary mixtures in preferential solvation of complex ions and of size and hydrophobicity of the nonlabile ligands.
